The best things to do on the Isle of Skye

An enchanting Isle

Skye is a magical and captivating island, famed for its outstanding natural beauty, ancient mountains, abundant wildlife, rich clan history and local folklore. The largest of the Inner Hebrides, and accessible by both bridge and ferry, Skye is Scotland’s most popular island - and for good reason. Every winding road and walking trail reveals new sights, scenery and experiences. Skye is yours to discover.

Picturesque Portree

Portree is Skye’s main town and central hub, making it a fantastic base to explore the island. The charming town centre is where you’ll find a selection of shops, eateries and amenities and a stroll down to the pretty harbour reveals colourful facades, bobbing moored boats and green-fringed hills in the background.

Scenic locations...

    Lealt Falls

Take a short and easy walk along a series of walkways to admire one of Skye’s many waterfalls, as it cascades through gorge and out to sea, past the ruins of an old dynamite factory.

    Kilt Rock

A stunning spot which showcases dramatic coastal views, the popularly photographed Mealt Falls, and a cliff formation, said to be shaped by the kilt of the legendary Scottish giant, Fingal.

    The Quiraing

The product of an ancient landslip, and one of Skye’s most otherworldly landscapes, the hairpin bends to reach The Quaraing are worth it for the views alone (although the road should only be attempted by confident drivers).
